Area Plans

With the adoption of the Regional Plan Update a new approach to sub-regional local government plans, Area Plans, has been established in the Lake Tahoe Region. Area Plans provide a means for local, state, federal and tribal governments to address unique circumstances within their communities while conforming to the goals and policies of the Regional Plan. In addition, approved Area Plans allow local governments to act as development review authority on local projects with oversight provided by TRPA. Area Plans consist of applicable policies, maps, ordinances, and any other related materials. An annual conformance review process ensures that each Area Plan aligns with the Regional Plan, including the regional sustainability measures embedded in the Regional Plan.

Area Plans contain the following base elements:

  • Current conditions
  • Conservation
  • Land use
  • Transportation
  • Recreation
  • Public services and facilities
  • Implementation

The LTSCP supports the integration of sustainability measures in the Area Plans for the Community of Meyers in El Dorado County, the City of South Lake Tahoe, and the part of Placer County located in the Tahoe Region This work is conducted in coordination with TRPA/TMPO, each local jurisdiction, and consultant assistance.
